In 2025, Plan International and Paramount, in partnership with Nickelodeon, launched a global campaign featuring beloved explorer Dora. This inspiring public service announcement reminds us that every girl is worthy of an education. It celebrates strength, dignity and the right to learn.

Together we launched The Dora Fund, an initiative that invests in grassroots and youth-led organizations advancing girls’ education. By providing direct grants and resources, the fund helps community leaders address barriers to learning and unlock opportunities for girls worldwide.Ā 

Since 2024, we have engaged more than 5,600 participants across 18 communities in six countries around the world.

A backpack might seem simple. But it can be the thing that keeps her in school and on the path to something powerful. In partnership with Paramount, we delivered more than 2,500 backpacks in nine countries.

What it means to be a board member

Serving as a Plan International USA board member gives you an opportunity to participate in the governance of an organization often ranked among the top non-governmental organizations in the world. Board members provide strategic input on how the organization advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

As a board member, you will:

  • Contribute to long-term strategy development, financial stewardship and oversight.
  • Provide advice and counsel to Plan management.
  • Engage young people.
  • Advocate for children’s rights and equality for girls.

Board members agree to demonstrate their commitment by:

Preparing for and attending board meetings that are held four times a year (two remote and two in-person) with special meetings as needed. In-person meetings are usually held in Washington, D.C.

Contributing knowledge and expertise through participation in committees or task forces.

Playing an active role in securing the financial resources required for Plan to achieve its mission. Board members are expected to leverage social and professional relationships and connections to help identify and solicit potential funders.

Making a personal contribution each year. A minimum of a $5,000 annual contribution is required.

Visiting one of Plan’s program sites at least once every three years.

Supporting Plan International USA’s mission, purpose and leadership, complying with Plan USA policies and signing an annual affirmation statement.

  • A large, varied social and/or professional network of high-net-worth individuals; or
  • Experience with strategic partnerships, including expertise in partnership structures for nonprofit collaborations.

Executive Team

Plan’s Executive Team leads day-to-day operations and strategy across programs, finance, development, communications, advocacy and operations. Together, they translate our mission into action, support teams across the organization and ensure our work delivers results for children and girls worldwide.

Youth voices at the table

Consistent with our youth-centered mission, Plan integrates young people into decision-making through structured leadership bodies. Our Youth Advisory Board provides insight and feedback on issues affecting young people globally. The board also leads youth-driven projects and campaigns connected to our work.

This engagement helps ensure our strategies reflect lived experience and that young people are recognized as leaders, not just beneficiaries.
